Claim Your Identity: Center for Arkansas Legal Services to Host Name and Gender Marker Correction Event June 21 with Park West Pharmacy and CALS

[Little Rock, Arkansas] – The Center for Arkansas Legal Services is thrilled to announce its upcoming legal clinic focused on Name and Gender Marker Correction, scheduled from 10 am-2 pm on June 21, 2024, at the McMath Library in Little Rock. This transformative event aims to provide crucial resources and support for individuals seeking to update their legal documents to accurately reflect their gender identity.

In alignment with Arkansas Legal's commitment to inclusivity and equality, this in-person event will offer a thorough session on navigating the process of name and gender marker corrections with staff and volunteer attorneys. Attendees will have the opportunity to access expert advice not only from legal professionals, but from advocates and community leaders who specialize in LGBTQ+ rights such as our partners from Park West Pharmacy and the Central Arkansas Library System.

"We believe in the fundamental right of every individual to have their identity recognized and respected," said Amber Quaid, director of communications at the Center for Arkansas Legal Services. "Our Name and Gender Marker Correction event serves as a vital springboard for empowering individuals to assert their true identity and understanding the legal barriers they may face."

The legal clinic will feature various aspects of the correction process, including legal requirements, documentation procedures, and potential challenges. Attendees will also receive personalized guidance and support to navigate the complexities of updating their name and gender marker on legal documents such as driver’s license, social security cards and birth certificates.

“A person’s name is sacred to an individual, having a name that expresses yourself to the world is everyone’s right,” Gwen Herzig, event co-host and owner of Park West Pharmacy.

Arkansas Legal encourages individuals interested in attending the Name and Gender Marker Correction event to show up early and take advantage of this invaluable opportunity.
